A Day in the Life
For Tony, an average day begins with setting clear expectations for his team and customers. He updates project trackers, communicates timelines, and ensures everyone knows what’s ahead. But the real highlight of his role comes when he’s learning something new—whether it’s a technology, a process, or a hands-on skill from the field.
“As a manager of a technical team, I enjoy leading from the front,” Tony explains. “I like to be in the field or the classroom learning about new technologies with the first techs on a project. It allows me to better assist them in getting what they need to complete the job.”
Lessons in Leadership
One of the most valuable lessons Tony has learned is the importance of documenting everything. Good management, he believes, is about making sure projects don’t hinge on one person’s memory or availability.
“Being open with information and sharing with your team shouldn’t end at word of mouth or emails,” he says. “Good management of a project becomes excellent management when anyone can look at your notes and handle your project in your absence.”
That mindset has helped Tony build trust, keep projects on track, and ensure that knowledge is shared across his team.
A Favorite (and Frightening) Project Site
Among the many projects he’s worked on, one stands out vividly: a microwave site perched on a mountain ridge in Arizona.
“The view was beautiful,” Tony recalls. “But the hour-long trip up the unpaved rocky mountain—without guard rails—was pretty terrifying.”
It’s experiences like this that make project management both challenging and rewarding, requiring not only technical skill but also resilience, adaptability, and a steady hand in unpredictable conditions.
