Job Summary:
Smartlink’s Technology Department operates at a dynamic pace, driven by individuals committed to delivering top notch technology solutions to our workforce, who are at the forefront of pivotal telecommunications, data center, and AI systems. The Senior Full Stack Engineer owns Smartlink’s portfolio of custom built internal applications supporting field operations and network asset and test data. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, this role builds out and grows Smartlink’s software engineering practice, with real authority over how these products are designed, built, and released. It carries the entire lifecycle, from database schema and API through user interface and the cloud infrastructure beneath it, along with the standards and processes a growing team will inherit. It suits an engineer who works independently, is security minded by default, treats AI assisted development as core infrastructure rather than an experiment, is energized by pushing how far those tools can go, and wants to build both a platform and the team behind it.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Own the application portfolio end to end: architecture, development, release, and production support, setting technical direction within agreed priorities.
• Mature an existing production codebase, raising it to the testing, documentation, and release standards required to run at scale.
• Define how software work gets done, including intake and prioritization of requests, version control and code review standards, environment promotion from development through production, and change management that stands up to audit.
• Build full stack TypeScript features, from database schema and migrations through the service layer to the web and mobile interfaces used in the field every day.
• Deploy and operate containerized services on Microsoft Azure, defined as infrastructure as code and released through automated pipelines.
• Own platform security, including authentication, authorization, multitenant isolation, role based access, audit logging, and incident response.
• Integrate the applications with enterprise systems of record, Microsoft 365, Slack, and vendor and field equipment APIs, including bidirectional synchronization.
• Use AI assisted development as the default way work gets done, directing coding agents through scoping, implementation, and refactoring, and knowing when to steer every step and when to set constraints and review the output.
• Review, test, and validate AI generated code for correctness, performance, and security before it ships, and stay accountable for everything that carries your name.
• Build AI into the products, including document intelligence, summarization, anomaly detection, and connecting application data to Smartlink’s agent platform.
• Stay at the front of AI tooling and technique, evaluate new models, agents, and workflows as they emerge, and bring what works back to the Technology Department.
• Find manual business processes worth automating, prototype quickly, and deliver the automation without waiting to be assigned the work.
• Set the engineering standards a growing team will inherit, and as it grows, help hire, onboard, review, and mentor engineers and contractors.
• Work directly with the CIO and other senior technology and business leaders to turn requirements into technical designs, present options with clear tradeoffs, and recommend a better alternative when there is one.
• Spend time with the field teams, contractors, and internal users who depend on these applications, and let what you learn shape what gets built next.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, maintain professional, ethical, and company standards.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
• 5+ years building and shipping production web or mobile applications end to end, with ownership of what was built after it shipped.
• Experience as the first, only, or one of very few engineers on a product, where you set the direction, decided what was worth building, and had no one to escalate to.
• Curiosity about the business, and willingness to learn how wireless and data center infrastructure actually gets built and maintained.
• Strong TypeScript and Node.js across client and server, including React and a modern React framework, and a structured, typed server framework.
• Solid relational database skills in PostgreSQL or a comparable engine, including schema design, indexing, query optimization, and migrations through a type safe ORM.
• Experience building and operating production services on a major cloud platform, Azure preferred, from container image through deployment and support, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and queue based communication.
• A security minded default: you think about access, data exposure, and failure modes while designing rather than after, and you know the fundamentals, including OAuth 2.0 and OIDC, session management, input validation, and least privilege access.
• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs and integrating third party systems through authenticated APIs and webhooks.
• Fluent daily use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor. Not curiosity or familiarity, but demonstrable use to scope, implement, and refactor production work, with the judgment to know where they fail.
• Genuine interest in where AI assisted development is heading, and a habit of adopting new tooling ahead of the curve rather than after it becomes standard.
• Demonstrated ability to establish engineering process where none exists, including branching strategy, code review, environments, and release practices, and to take ownership of a codebase written by someone else.
• Comfort working alongside technical colleagues who are not developers, including network and infrastructure engineers, field technicians, and systems administrators, translating between what they need and what the software does.
• Interest in mentoring other engineers and growing into technical leadership as the team expands.
• Preferred: LLM and agent based development, including retrieval, evaluation, and agent tooling built for your own workflow.
• Also preferred: React Native and cross platform mobile delivery, geospatial data and mapping, federated identity platforms, monorepo development, and experience in an audited environment such as SOC 2.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
• Minimal travel (less than 10%) is expected in association with performing this position.
• Sedentary work (i.e., sitting for long periods of time), exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, subject to inside environmental conditions.

Your First 90 Days
• You can safely ship changes to any application in the portfolio without support.
• Automated testing and deployment have replaced manual release steps.
• At least one manual business process has been automated and is running in production.
• You have introduced an AI capability or agent workflow the business now relies on.
