Job Summary:
The Data Center EHS Manager leads site safety for hyperscale data center projects and live operations, driving a zero-incident culture across high-volume fiber deployment, OSE cabinet/rack installs, and overhead pathway construction. This hands-on leadership role owns the site EHS program, manages EHS Representatives, and ensures full compliance with client requirements, OSHA, NFPA 70E, environmental regulations, and company standards. The manager maintains a strong field presence—conducting daily audits and pre-task huddles, overseeing fiber-specific controls (e.g., shard containment and splice-area hygiene), managing incidents and corrective actions, and sustaining EHS readiness across 24/5–24/7 operations in high-security, mission-critical environments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Compliance
• Lead, implement, and continuously improve the site EHS program aligned to OSHA 29 CFR 1910/1926, NFPA 70E, environmental requirements, and client standards.
• Serve as the primary EHS point of contact for onsite leadership, client EHS, regulatory agencies, and audits/inspections.
• Develop and enforce SOPs/MOPs/EOPs, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs/PTPs), and controls for high-risk work.
Team Management & Field Presence
• Lead, schedule, and coach EHS Safety Representatives; set priorities, review findings, and drive consistent application of standards.
• Maintain a visible daily field presence across data halls, MEP spaces, splicing areas, and construction zones.
• Conduct daily safety huddles, verify JHAs/PTPs, and review high-risk activities (energized work, elevated work, rigging/lifts).
Inspections, Permits & Fiber-Specific Controls
• Perform routine audits of PPE, tools, ladders/MEWPs, cable-pulling setups, material staging, and housekeeping.
• Oversee fiber-specific safety practices: shard control, eye/hand protection, clean splice areas, solvent handling, contamination prevention, and end-face cleanliness protocols.
• Ensure permit compliance, including LOTO, hot work, elevated work, confined space, and other site-specific authorizations.
Incident Management & Corrective Actions
• Lead incident and near-miss response; conduct joint investigations with Client EHS, perform root-cause analysis, and drive CAPA to closure.
• Maintain OSHA logs, training matrices, SDS libraries, and EHS reports; ensure audit-ready documentation and timely submissions.
Risk Assessments & Operational Integration
• Conduct risk assessments for energized work, fall protection, material handling, and high-airflow environments; verify the effectiveness of controls (barricading, arc-flash boundaries, grounding, GFCIs, machine guarding).
• Partner with project management, construction, logistics, and operations to sequence work safely and prevent conflicts in live environments.
Training, Culture & Communication
• Deliver or coordinate required training (LOTO Authorized, NFPA 70E awareness/qualification, fall protection, hot work, spill response, First Aid/CPR/AED).
• Drive safety-culture initiatives: toolbox talks, near-miss campaigns, safety stand-downs, and coaching.
• Provide routine EHS dashboards/updates to leadership and client stakeholders.
Environmental Stewardship
• Oversee chemical management (SDS, storage/labeling), spill prevention/response, and waste programs (universal, e-waste, hazardous).
• Support SPCC compliance where fuel systems are present; ensure inspections, containment integrity, and proper documentation.
Other Duties
• Support 24/5–24/7 operations as needed for maintenance windows, change events, shutdowns, and incident response.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Required
• 7+ years of construction/industrial safety experience (data center preferred).
• OSHA 30 required; OSHA 500 (or equivalent advanced safety training) preferred.
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
• Demonstrated experience with incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions through closure.
• Strong communication, leadership, and coaching skills; able to influence crews and contractors in fast-paced, high-risk environments.
• Working knowledge of OSHA 1910/1926, NFPA 70E, LOTO, fall protection, hot work, ladder/MEWP safety, and material-handling controls.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, JHAs/PTPs, permits, and SOPs/MOPs/EOPs; familiarity with client standards.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS reporting/inspection platforms; excellent documentation discipline.
• Valid driver’s license and the ability to pass all required data-center background checks for site access.
Preferred
• Experience in hyperscale data centers or environments involving high-density fiber-optic installation.
• Familiarity with fiber-optic hazards, shard-control practices, and telecom installation workspaces.
• Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, STS, CIH, NFPA 70E Qualified, HAZWOPER 24/40.
• Experience managing environmental programs (waste streams, spill response, SPCC) and exposure to ISO 45001/14001 frameworks.
• Prior leadership of EHS Representatives/Technicians across multiple shifts or sites.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
• Walk long distances across large campuses; stand for extended periods during audits and field walkthroughs.
• Lift and move 40–50 lbs occasionally (barricades, spill kits, test gear); climb ladders/stairs and access elevated work areas as needed.
• Work in high-airflow, noisy, or temperature-variable areas (data halls, mechanical yards, generator rooms) with required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, high-viz, hearing protection).
• Operate within high-security, mission-critical environments and follow strict access and change-control procedures.
• Provide off-hours support for incidents or maintenance windows; significant travel (>70%) may be required based on project/location needs.
